“… there’s a question I’ve been fairly itching to ask you: Why?”


For nearly as long as I’ve worked in the theater, I’ve experienced variations on this conversation:

Actress #1: “Ohhh, I adore 1776! I would love to do that show some day!”
Actress #2: “Me too! But there are barely any parts for women!”
Actress #3: “Man, if only someone would do an all-female production…”

We then either move into casting our hypothetical show from the available actresses in the room… or are stopped dead by some Donny Downer who asks bluntly:

Don: “Who would come to see THAT?”

(Thanks, Don. Way to bring down the room.)

For reasons that are probably pretty self-evident, (Ooo. See what I did there?) I much prefer being part of the former conversation… but, in fairness, let’s consider this question.

That Friday Feeling…

… when Hancock declares Congressional Recess until Monday…

… and you’ve got swag plans with your fancy bros…

… why, even the most obnoxious and disliked can barely contain his excitement!

Oh. Hello. Reading over my shoulder are you, friend?

This piece of paper? Bah. Nothing, really. Well… not at the moment. I suppose it could yet turn out to be something of substance, should this cursed case of writer’s block ever clear up…

… bit of a long story. In short, I have been charged by my fellow congressman Mr. John Adams, (you likely heard bellowing through the open windows of the State House on your way over here) to draft up, “a declaration of some sort” on the present intolerable state of affairs between these united colonies and our parent country, England. The intention is independence, so I suppose one might say I am soon to be the author of-

The Declaration of Independence.


Thanks for indulging me. I’ve only been fantasizing about writing something like that since I was twelve years old. No big deal. #MusicalTheaterFangirlNerd
